Oklahoma Lemon Law: Tests, Refunds & Free Car Check

The short answer

Oklahoma’s Lemon Law (15 O.S. § 901) applies when you report a defect directly in writing within the warranty or the first year, whichever ends first. It presumes enough attempts after 4 repairs or 30 business days out of service, once the manufacturer has written notice and a chance to cure. The refund includes taxes and fees but not interest, and deducts only miles beyond 15,000, × the price ÷ 120,000.

Oklahoma’s refund formula is one of the most owner-friendly in our verified states: the first 15,000 miles you drive are free. The trade-off is a short window, one year or the warranty, and no state agency to enforce the law. This guide explains the rules from Title 15 of the Oklahoma Statutes and the Attorney General’s consumer guide.

Refund, replacement and the Oklahoma deduction for use

Oklahoma Lemon Law remedies
RemedyWhat it includes
RefundThe full purchase price including taxes, license, registration and similar government fees, excluding interest, less a reasonable allowance for use.
ReplacementA comparable new model acceptable to you. If none can be agreed on, the price is refunded.

How the Oklahoma deduction for use is calculated

purchase or lease price × miles driven beyond 15,000 ÷ 120,000 (15 O.S. § 901(C)).

Worked example: $36,000 vehicle, first repair at 6,000 miles, 15,000 miles today
StepMathAmount
Purchase price—$36,000.00
Deduction for use0 miles over 15,000 × $36,000 ÷ 120,000−$0.00
Refund before taxes, fees and other chargesThose are added under the rules above$36,000.00

Oklahoma’s 15,000 free miles

The allowance for use counts only miles beyond 15,000, multiplied by the purchase or lease price and divided by 120,000 (§ 901(C)).

Deduction on a $40,000 vehicle
Miles drivenMiles over 15,000Deduction
12,0000$0.00
17,0002,000$666.67
27,00012,000$4,000.00

The Attorney General’s guide gives its own example: a $15,000 car driven 17,000 miles has 2,000 miles over 15,000, so the allowance is 1/60 of the price, $250.
